Questions and Answers about starting your own business

Can I purchase Wholesale if I do not hold a resale license?
You must be either a sub-wholesale member of Melissa's Gifts (by purchasing the complete business start up kit) or you must hold a current Resale or business license in order to buy at wholesale.

How do I obtain a resale license?
That's very easy, simply contact your state bureau of taxation and ask to get a "sales tax certificate" for a new business. They will ask you what you plan to sell and the name of your company if applicable. There is normally no charge for the sales tax certificate and you only need to collect sales tax on customers when shipping to your state. You may also want to see an accountant and he/she may be able to answer any questions about starting your own business.

Can I use your product images and descriptions for my website or auction site?
Yes, We have over 700 products on the website now with the descriptions and pictures that you can easily copy to your website or auction site. You can also search for any of our images by going to *Product images for use on your website

We have over 400 brand new items that are included in the new FALL 2004 catalog and many but not all are uploaded onto our product pages however, we would be happy to send you any images that you need for your website by simply requesting them by E-Mail.
We currently do not have a product cd available however, that is something we are considering offering in the future.

Membership fees
There are NO membership fees, there never has been and NEVER will be.

Do I have to purchase in bulk or buy the case

Most of our merchandise can be purchase in a single unit however, there are a few items such as costume jewelry, pen's with display, perfume display that must be per dozen, per case etc. Please see your yellow wholesale price list for details.

Ordering Questions

Once you receive your wholesale information and price list than you may place your orders by Fax, U.S. Mail or E-Mail. If you choose to place your order by E-mail your first order should be by U.S Mail or Fax so we can have your credit card information on file for future orders. When placing subsequent orders you will need only to include your last 4 digits of your credit card number so we can process your order in a secure manner.

drop-Shipping to you or your customers

We will drop-ship to your customer's anywhere within the U.S.A. We recommend that you let your customer know that your order will be shipped by a merchandise through a fulfillment company, because shipping label and invoice will have "fulfillment center" on them. No prices will ever be shown and 3 lines of your text can be added to their invoice for your company name or contact name, address, web or E-mail address.

Returns
You must contact us within the stated 30 day warranty period to receive a full refund on the purchase price, please understand that we can't refund your shipp ing and handling costs. Merchandise that is received after warranty period is subject to a 15% restocking fee. No credit adjustment or replacement on any unauthorized returns, please email customer support for a Return Authorization Number. All packaging material and interior boxes must be intact and in resale condition.

DAMAGED MERCHANDISE
Inspect each box for signs of damage such as crushed, torn, open, unseamed tape, etc. If you do find outward damage, sign the receipt with the words "Exception – Damage." For United Parcel Service deliveries then, contact Customer service.
Hidden Damage by carrier:
If you should receive a shipment delivered by carrier that shows no visible damage, but upon inspection you discover damage due to evident rough handling, contact us immediately or within 30 days of invoice date and report the damage. We will issue credit or replacement at your request.
If your drop-ship customer reports damage:
Contact us, giving us your drop-ship customer’s name and address. We will reship to your customer or credit your account.

SHORTAGES
Shortages If you receive an order from us and find it has not been filled completely:
Check your invoice. If the item was out of stock, it was not charged to your account. If the item does not appear on your invoice, be sure to advise the Member Support Department representative when you E-mail or Fax. Thoroughly check the cartons and packing. Small items may be under the packing material. Upon receipt, check the condition of the cartons. If there is a shortage due to tampering, a claim must be placed with the carrier. Follow the same procedure as if there is damage. If there is no tampering and an actual shortage exists, contact our Customer Support department. We'll need to know the invoice number, number of cartons received, the missing item number, and whether you prefer credit or a replacement. We will investigate the shortage. When the item is confirmed as not shipped, it will be shipped or credit will be issued to your account, whichever you prefer. If reweighing your shipment or other checking procedures indicates all items were shipped, we will advise you.

ITEMS on Backorder or unavailable
IMPORTANT: Our company policy is to not ship an out of stock item (when it becomes available) without the consent of the sub-wholesaler due to the minimum shipping fees. We don't place wholesale order on backorder when they are unavailable, we either refund your credit card or credit your account. Due to the cost of processing and handling small orders we have a minimum shipping fee of $6.50, orders over $25.00 are an estimated 15% of the order total. We keep our shipping fees as reasonable as possible and in nearly all cases the amount charged for the shipping is less than what it would cost for you to ship these items yourself.

Shipping Charges Shipping charges within the continuous U.S.A. run about 15%, occasionally a particularly heavy shipment may be more. For orders outside the continuous United States ( Guam, Puerto Rico or Alaska, Hawaii, Virgin Islands) you can forward the 15% and we will bill you or charge your credit card for the remaining fee. You will only be charged what it actually costs us to ship your merchandise and your will be credited or billed for any difference between the 15% and the actual shipping amount.

Note: All of the UPS shipments will be fully insured against damage and will have a UPS tracking number on each package so you will be sure that the merchandise was received by your customers.

All orders will be shipped by UPS ground unless a P.O.Box is specified. It actually costs more to ship to a P.O. box than it does by UPS Ground service so we recommend that you obtain a physical address whenever possible.

DHL or Rush option We do offer a DHL option to ship your items however it is quite costly and we will only do so if you specifically ask for it. You can expect your rush order within 4 working days. The cost is as follows: Orders under $30.00 are a flat rate of $20.00. Orders over $35.00 are 65% of your order total.

Payment Options
We don't offer credit terms at this time and all orders must be paid in advanced. We accept Personal and Business checks (please allow 7 days for bank clearance) Money orders and Visa or Master Card credit and Debit cards. We don't back order any item unless you specify to do so. All orders are processed within 48 hours and delivery usually takes 7-10 days for standard ground delivery.
